(303) 497-6436

Dr. Andrey Grachev is a research scientist with the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado and NOAA Earth System Research Laboratories (Physical Sciences Laboratory) located in Boulder, CO. His research focuses on the atmospheric boundary layers over sea/land/ice, turbulence in stratified fluids, air-sea interaction, and Arctic research. He has participated in numerous research field campaigns and sea cruises from the Tropics to the Arctic unraveling the intricacies of the atmospheric and oceanic turbulence. His work is devoted to making in-situ measurements of the turbulent fluxes and surface meteorology for understanding and proper parameterization of the surface fluxes for climate modeling, weather forecasting, environmental impact studies and other important applications.

Research Interests

  • Atmospheric boundary layers and turbulence in stratified fluids over sea/land/ice
  • Air-sea interaction: flux measurements and parameterization
  • Arctic research
  • Heat/mass transfer in near-wall flows
