# Summary of the data file contained in this data set: o L2_GFS_AT_NUCAPS_YYYYMMDD_acc.asc, o L2_GFS_AT_SND_YYYYMMDD_acc.asc, o L2_NUCAPS_YYYYMMDD_acc.asc, o L2_SND_YYYYMMDD_acc.asc # Data set description: # NUCAPS retreivals are output on 53 unevenly spaced pressure levels. There are two types of NUCAPS retrieval fils: o L2_NUCAPS_YYYYMMDD_acc.asc. There is a NUCAPS file of this type for each G-IV flight day. Each NUCAPS file contains all matching retrievals to each G-IV dropsonde. There is a NUCAPS file of this type also for each radiosonde launched at Kiritimati. o L2_SND_YYYYMMDD_acc.asc. For each of the G-IV collocated NUCAPS files, there is an equivalent dropsonde file containing all G-IV dropsonde profiles, interpolated on the same pressure levels as the NUCAPS soundings. Equivalently, there is a Kiritimati radiosonde file, interpolated on the same pressure levels as the NUCAPS soundings. # There are two types of GFS forecast files. o L2_GFS_AT_NUCAPS_YYYYMMDD_acc.asc. This is spatially and temporally interpolated to the NUCAPS soundings closest to the location of the sondes. Note that this file has the GFS interpolated to the NUCAPS location nearest the sonde. o L2_GFS_AT_SND_YYYYMMDD_acc.asc. This is temporally and spatially interpolated to the actual sondes. Note that this file has the GFS interpolated at the sonde location and time.
